Lake Ashby Park
This popular waterfront park offers many outdoor recreational opportunities, including canoeing, fishing, walking and simply enjoying nature. Angling is permitted from the boardwalk and along the shore. Additionally, a launch site for personal watercraft is available off Commercial Avenue.
The 71-acre rural park includes primitive tent camping, a playground, volleyball court, nature/horse trails, boardwalks, fishing pier, grills, and pavilions with picnic tables. It also offers a free public boat ramp nearby.
The park is open from sunrise to sunset and offers a 3,500-square-foot children's play area that includes a variety of climbers, swings and ladders.
Lake Ashby was named for Major James A. Ashby, who helped lead American military forces during the second Seminole War.

Tabitha ShaskinI love the dock you can fish off of. My son Will said that he thinks the swings are the best around because the seats are well made and don't buckle when you sit in them. Nice camping amenities and hiking trails as well.

J. RayDon’t miss the right turn into the park! Wonderful playground. I’d like to think it’s safe since a sheriff vehicle is at the private residence there. Plenty of parking, picnic tables, grills, volleyball, covered pavilion. Trails and boardwalk are the perks for me. Didn’t use bathrooms so can’t comment on those.

MichaelLake Ashby Park is a hidden gem in central Florida halfway between Sanford and Daytona Beach! It is FREE to access, and is a beautiful, well-kept, and peaceful park complete with a boardwalk over Lake Ashby, hiking trail, horseback riding trails, a playground, plenty of parking, an easy access road (all paved, no dirt road here), picnic tables, grills, and even a hidden beach! Yes, you heard me correctly: Lake Ashby has a hidden beach! You obviously need to be mindful of alligators, but head to the right of the boardwalk and you’ll find a little river flowing into the lake - at the mouth of the river, there is really nice white sand and a whole beach area you can relax at! The coolest thing about this river is there are actually a few rapids along it - this is one of the only rivers in the whole state of Florida that has any amount of rapids (keep in mind it’s literally only like 4 inches tall, but better than nothing) and it’s just cool to hear flowing water for a change!! Every other river across this state has stagnant water that barely flows - this is different!! Be sure to walk out to the boardwalk, because if you’re lucky, you might be the only one there…as I found! I came around 4 pm on a weekday in August right after it rained, so it cooled down a lot - I was the only person there. Such a beautiful, peaceful place! I love this place!

Bianca González-SchulteReally enjoyed the updated playground. The pavilions are large and there’s a lot of grills. I love the boardwalk but the old section is very sketchy. I was really worried about my toddler and how rickety the planks on the board walk are.
