More than 17 miles of shoreline, sections of drivable beach, and the Indian River Lagoon create a range of distinct backdrops. Natural preserves, waterfront settings, historic streets, and local landmarks each offer a unique setting while remaining close together.

Our Beaches

17 miles of sandy shoreline and striking Atlantic sunrises define the New Smyrna Beach Area. Known for its consistent surf and wide, open coastline, the beach offers clean sightlines, natural light, and a scenic coastal landscape. Select areas allow for beach driving, while other stretches offer a quieter, more relaxed setting, ideal for on-location shoots.

Located in the NSB Beach District, Flagler Avenue reflects the laid-back, small-town character of the New Smyrna Beach Area. With colorful storefronts, local shops, and a strong surf culture, the avenue offers a vibrant setting with walkable streets and direct access to the ocean, making it perfect for coastal and street-level scenes.

General Filming Permits

As one of Florida’s top tourism destinations, the New Smyrna Beach Area supports a range of film, commercial, and television productions. A combination of experienced industry professionals and diverse locations makes it a practical and visually compelling setting for production.

Located within close reach of Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville, the area provides convenient access to world-class studios and soundstages. The New Smyrna Beach Area Visitors Bureau can assist in connecting productions with the appropriate permitting agencies and local resources.  To apply, complete the Film and Motion Photography Permit for Volusia County and the municipalities listed below.

National Park Service Film Application

Canaveral National Seashore offers a protected stretch of coastline known for its pristine beaches, natural dunes, and untouched landscapes. This setting has been used for films, commercials, and photography, offering a distinct look shaped by unspoiled coastal beauty.

Filming or photography involving talent, products, or props requires a permit through the National Park Service. Applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, with restrictions in high-traffic areas and limited availability on weekends. Florida Surf Film Festival

The Florida Surf Film Festival brings surf culture to the screen through contemporary documentary films and storytelling. Founded in 2012, the festival highlights filmmakers from around the world, showcasing projects that capture the spirit, creativity, and community behind surfing.

Screenings take place throughout the year, including events in the New Smyrna Beach Area at the Brannon Center. Each gathering offers a mix of film, conversation, and connection, with a relaxed coastal setting that reflects the culture behind the stories.
